Fall Championship Week



Fall Championship Week is underway for the NEWMAC in various sports, with MIT in the heart of it.

Last week MIT took home the NEWMAC championship in Women's Tennis, Women's Cross Country, as well as Men's Cross Country. The women's tennis team finished the Fall slate undefeated and ranked #17 in the country. The women's cross-country team, who was ranked as high as #3 in the nation this season, captured their 7th consecutive NEWMAC title, while the men's team, ranked as high as #4 nationally, continued its reign with its 16th consecutive championship.

MIT Ranked 4th Best Athletics Program in Nation



The MIT Athletics program is currently in 4th place in the Learfield Sports Director's Cup, which measures overall athletic programs in Division III. MIT witnessed one of the greatest winter seasons in the Institute's history, including the men's basketball team's historic Final Four performance.

MIT Athletics Hosts Annual Kids Day, Celebrates NCAA Division III Week

The MIT Student Athletic Advisory Committee and MIT Athletics teamed up last week for the national NCAA Division III Week. One of the events included hosting 100 sixth-graders from a nearby school in a day of athletic events. The MIT Basketball squad has participated in the annual Kids Day celebration every year.

Seven MIT athletic teams are currently ranked in the top-25 in their respective sport:

No. 9 Volleyball Beats Reigning National Champions

The #9 MIT Men's Volleyball squad, who join five other current MIT teams who are ranked in the top-ten in their respective sport, took down the reigning national champion and current #1 team Nazareth in four sets over the weekend.

MIT Athletics on National Stage




The MIT men's basketball team isn't the only team on campus finding success in the national spotlight. The MIT men's swimming and diving team, the women's swimming and diving team, the men's track and field team, as well as the women's track and field team are all ranked in the Top 10 in the nation in their respective sport:

#3 Men's Basketball
#4 Men's Swimming & Diving
#5 Women's Indoor Track & Field
#6 Women's Swimming & Diving
#10 Men's Indoor Track & Field

MIT Athletics' success as a whole is captured by their high ranking in the Director's Cup national standings (15th after the fall season), which measures the overall performances of Division III programs.

Women's Team Off to Hot Start

The MIT Women's Basketball squad has also started the season in strong fashion. The Engineers are currently 6-3 overall and 3-1 in conference, including two dramatic wins over WPI and Coast Guard Academy, as well as a dominating victory over academic rival CalTech 100-26. Led by Head Coach Sonia Raman, Tech looks to extend their 3-game win streak against Simmons College on December 30th at Rockwell Cage.

MIT Athletic Program Ranked 7th in Nation





MIT is currently ranked 7th out of all Division III programs after the Fall season for the Learfield Sports Director's Cup, which measures the overall success of collegiate athletic programs. Five of the top seven athletic programs are located in the Northeast. An updated set of rankings will be released December 8th.

MIT Athletics Program Cracks Top 10 in National Rankings

MIT is known more for its high national rankings in the classroom, but in the most recent release of the the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Division III Director's Cup rankings, MIT moved up to the 9th position. In the past 3 years, MIT has steadily improved its ranking from 60 to 37 to 24, and all the way into the top 10 this month. The change reflects MIT's continued commitment to fielding competitive athletic programs. MIT's athletic director, Julie Soriero, said "When people think of MIT, they should think about achievement and excellence.
